FRONTAL Lobe
The Frontal Lobe of the brain lays in the front of the cerebral cortex in the skull. The frontal lobe is involved with movement, decision making, problem solving, and planning. Some functions the frontal love is involved in is motor functions, reasoning, memory, judgement, and impulse control. There are three main sections of the frontal lobe, prefrontal cortex, premotor cortex, the motor cortex.
The Prefrontal Cortex:
The prefrontal Cortex is responsible for personality expressions and the planning of complex cognitive behaviours. This section of the brain deals with choices such as right and wrong and predicting the possible outcome of an action or event. The prefrontal cortex supervises thoughts of short term and long term decision making and social tendencies. A large portion of what makes you, you functions in this section of the brain.
The Premotor Cortex:
The premotor cortex is a area that mainly consists of connected areas to the motor cortex. The premotor cortex has two functioning areas, lateral and medial. Both of these sections are connected by neural pathways (a grouping of electrical wires that) to the motor cortex. The lateral areas of the premotor cortex controls direct physical movements in response to an external stimulus. This essentially means it reacts to sensitivity of any type outside of the body. The medial areas of the premotor cortex respond to internal stimulus from the brain. When an action needs to be executed, the medial areas direct muscle movements to perform physical movement.
The Motor Cortex:
The Motor Cortex is the area of the frontal lobe that controls the body's voluntary movement. This area of frontal lobe uses neurons to send signals down the spinal cord to coordinate muscle movements. Each region of the body is represented in the motor cortex and is divided to represent each individual region of the body. The motor cortex works with the premotor cortex to learn movements and coordination as well as us signals to make voluntary movements.
